We Are Couples Doubles Now
Sorry we’re a little late this week, but we've been doing a little bit of re-branding around here. We like the name Couples on the Court, but since we're focused on tennis and mixed doubles for couples, we decided to simplify and change our name to “Couples Doubles.”
Here's our new logo! The two rackets are layered to show we’re stronger together.
Let me know what you think in the comments!

Tennis Laugh 😃
Taylor Fitz is a neighbor of ours in Palos Verdes, so thought we'd share this laugh.

Mixed Doubles Drills 🎾
The couple that practices drills together…wins!
Well, that may be over promising a little, but you definitely won’t get better if you don’t practice, right? And practicing together is what it’s all about. But what if you can’t find another couple to play with?
This week we researched some drills you can do to practice doubles tactics even if it’s just the two of you. These are generic doubles workouts, but as a couple you can adjust and make them your own.
Before you start the drill, talk about how you played your last match. What went well? What needs some improvement? What do you each need to improve, and how can you play better as a couple? Set those intentions before practice and you’re bound to see improvement.
As a couple it’s important to address the elephant in the room: who’s going to get targeted when you’re in a match? Traditionally it’s the weaker player. So practice returning those big serves and hard volleys together before match time.
Of course, you can’t return everything 🤣

The San Diego Open ☀️
Oh, do we love San Diego! Some of our favorite people in the whole world live there. And the San Diego Open is held in an intimate venue, so you get up close to the stars of tennis.
If you’re looking for a fun getaway, San Diego is the perfect choice. So grab your tickets now.
New Tennis Resort 😎
Not far away is a brand new luxury tennis resort we are dying to try. The Sensei Porcupine Creek is set within the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains near Palm Springs, California.

The website promises that “a true desert oasis awaits you on your wellbeing journey. The mountain range, part of a nationally protected monument in the Coachella Valley, rises dramatically on the horizon, creating a tranquil backdrop to an expansive 230-acre property. Sensei Porcupine Creek has transformed a private Rancho Mirage estate – sought after by professional athletes, celebrities and dignitaries – into an intimate wellness retreat featuring peerless golf and tennis facilities, luxurious accommodations, lush spa gardens and Sensei by Nobu dining exclusively for resort guests.”
Yes, please!
Unfortunately, the doors don’t open until November 1, so it won’t be a part of this So Cal trip. Maybe for Indian Wells?

Mixed Signals 🤟🏻
Thanks 🙏 Good Luck! 🤞🏼 Way to go! 👍
We all use various hand gestures in life (and in text messages). When we’re playing couples doubles, we can also use them on the court.
If you don’t know what. the signals mean, here’s a helpful guide.
As a couple, you can have extra fun by making up your own language of signals. Invent your own signals for “kisses,” “hugs,” “love you” and “hang in there.”
And why stop at the court? There are plenty of situations at home “please take out the trash,” or even a night on the town “time to go home” or “need another drink,” could be fun ones.
Do you have any signals? Share in the comments!
Fun Fact ✅
Keeping Score 🕥
Do you know where the wacky tennis scoring system came from? No one seems to be able to say for sure, but the most common explanation is that they were based on a clock face. We like Daria Saville’s explanation:
Thanks, friends!
We’ll see you next week!

Great issue!
Loved this issue -- especially the "beer boy" skit and the new branding -- spot on! So excited for the Porcupine Creek resort to open. We drove by one night and spied a tropical oasis with lighted palm trees behind a thick privacy hedge.. Life goals!
As for secret signals... we have one that says "please rescue me from this conversation"... but we'll never tell what it is XD!
