Mixed Doubles teams win less than a quarter on the dollar compared to the "regular" doubles. So why do they do it?

I’m enjoying watching the U.S. Open, especially because professional mixed doubles matches only happen at the Grand Slams. I went to the website to check the schedules and draw and noticed at the top of each round they list the prize money. Whoah. Compared with Singles or even Doubles, the prize money for mixed doubles is downright paltry.
